Marsha Kay Seff
Marsha Kay Seff, a long-time newspaper reporter, is learning the ins and out and ups and downs of caregiving first-hand. She's been there, done that, and still limping along through trial and error.
A few years back, when long-distance caregiving became too impractical, she brought her mom and dad to San Diego. She sold their home in Miami Beach; her sister, Bobbe, packed and shipped the belongings their parents would need and gave away the rest. Her father has since passed away, and her mother lives in the assisted-living floor of a retirement facility.
In her spare time -- of which there's not nearly as much as BP (before parents) -- Seff enjoys traveling with her husband, Jim, and teaching water exercises at a San Diego retirement facility. "We exercise our mouths, talking and laughing, more than we exercise the rest of our bodies," she admits.
And what's wrong with that? Seff is convinced that "without laughter, growing old is no laughing matter."
