Celebrating The Soon-to-be Mrs

The bachelorette party is a terrific prenuptial time to celebrate as a single gal with close friends. Normally the maid of honor and or the bridal party will plan a special event in honor of the bride to be. But how do you make it one the bride will always remember?

How well do you know the bride? Put her likes and dislikes first over popular venues and activities. Is she a down-to-earth girl who loves camping, outdoor activities and sports? Maybe she adores the pampering of a facial, manicure and massage? Or perhaps she likes the lights and excitement of a big city and live show? She may love movie nights at home. No matter what, the bride-to-be is the star of the night, weekend or any special event that is planned in her honor.

If she is into relaxed, earthbound matters, consider renting a cabin in the woods (assuming bride and/or guests are not up to pitching tents) for a weekend getaway. Party with a campfire, or go boating on a nearby lake, swimming off a beach, or hiking through beautiful trails. Don't forget to take a camera for memorable keepsakes.

Maybe the bride enjoys a night of clubbing, lights and excitement. Get a hotel room for the night or weekend in a nearby, lively city. Get tickets to a live play, comedy revue or concert. Do a bit of barhopping, maybe some shopping, or even a bit of tourism. If you don't have the time or funds for an overnight or weekend, arrange transportation so no one has to get behind the wheel after a few drinks.

Pampering the bride with a spa day will not only be appreciated but also will help her relax after months of hectic wedding planning. Whether you choose a hotel with a spa, pool or beach, or perhaps a lounge with entertainment, she'll be able to unwind and focus on herself.

Throw her an educational bachelorette party with class by taking the group to a cooking, sculpture or yoga class. A night on the rink (ice or roller-skating) might be a fun activity so long as the bride and guests are up for it. (NO broken legs before the wedding!) Themed house parties can be fun. Some great themes can be the honeymoon destination (if the bride knows), a favorite TV show, an "journey" to a place she's always wanted to go, an historic period, a wellness event, or game night. An extra special event could include the entire bridal party spending a day volunteering with her at a food bank, an animal shelter or supporting another passion of the bride.

If a special trip or tickets to a show, art gallery or museum are affordable, then consider whisking away to on a destination vacation. If resources are minimal, a tasteful house party can certainly be memorable with all of the right friends around her. Consider renting a place or using someone's house as a secret getaway.

If the maid-of-honor isn't comfortable planning "just the right" event, discuss it with the rest of the bridal party. If there is someone else in the bridal party who can take the lead, someone who knows the bride well, and someone who is both comfortable and savvy with making the arrangements, let that person take the lead. At all times, though, make sure there are always open communication lines between all the participants.

Be sure to consider the bride's interests, the resources and budget that the bridal party can afford and a convenient time for all. Depending on the plans, you may need to decide if the party is to be a surprise or if the bride will need to pack or dress appropriately. Remember, it's all about celebrating the bride!
